Mom-Approved Tire Check

Quick Tire Safety Check Every Busy Mom Can Do in 5 Minutes

Between school runs, soccer practice, grocery hauls, and everything in between, moms are constantly on the move—and we get it. Car maintenance? It’s just one more thing on the list.

But here’s the truth: a quick tire check can make all the difference when it comes to your family’s safety. The good news? You can do it in under five minutes. No tools. No stress. Just a little peace of mind before you hit the road.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Do a Quick Walk-Around

Before loading up the car, take a few seconds to walk around and look at each tire. Ask yourself:

  • Do they look lower than usual?

  • Is one more deflated than the others?

  • Do you see anything lodged in the tread (like nails or glass)?

If anything looks off, it’s time to get it checked—better safe than stranded.

Step 2: Check Tread Depth with a Penny

Grab a penny and insert it into the tread of your tire with Lincoln’s head facing down.
If you can see the top of Abe’s head, it’s time for new tires.

💡 Why it matters: Bald tires can’t grip the road properly, especially in the rain, putting you and your passengers at risk.

Step 3: Feel for Uneven Wear

Run your hand lightly across the surface of each tire. If one area feels more worn down than the rest, your tires might be out of alignment—or your air pressure might be off.

This kind of wear can lead to blowouts or cause your car to drift while driving.

Step 4: Check Tire Pressure (Bonus if You Have a Gauge)

If you have a tire pressure gauge handy (they’re cheap and small!), compare the pressure in each tire to the recommended PSI listed on the sticker inside your driver-side door.

⚠️ Don’t rely on the number printed on the tire—that’s the max, not the ideal.

Step 5: Trust Your Gut (and Clutch)

If something feels off—even if you're not sure what it is—we’re here to help. Don’t wait until a warning light pops up or a flat leaves you stuck in the preschool pickup line.
